Fasted Training Good or Bad? The answer to that question really will dependon your situation, your schedule and your goals.
If you are skinny or regular weight and tryingto gain muscle, eat, or take a shake before and after training.
Just give yourself enough time for digestion.
Preworkout meals should be mostly fast digestingsimple carbohydrates like fruit as these will stimulate your insulin levels, fight cortisol,and keep you energized.
Now if you are carrying around some extrapounds of fat that you want to rid yourself of while retaining or gaining muscle mass,that is a completely different scenario and my area of specialty.
A strategy that I personally found very effectiveyou might try as well if your schedule allows it is morning fasted training.
This plan carries the additional benefitsof burning almost 100% fat as fuel as your body has gone into a fasted state overnightand there are no glycogen stores available.
It is hard at first because your energy levelsare so low but unless you have really low blood sugar you should be OK.
My morning schedule included drinking 3 cupsof strong green tea and taking BCAA's (branched chain amino acids) which help retain muscle,and then doing a combination of moderate weights and cardio for 40 minutes.
I started with a whole body program and tothis day do a split of Chest, Leg, Arms and Back.
Yes, I know every bodybuilder in the worldlooks and laughs at my fasted circuit workout routine but I did lose 120 pounds and andretained muscle so they can essentially suck it.
Remember, most importantly when you are overweightyour main focus is muscle retention, not building.
You have already built a strong core justcarrying around extra weight.
